This time, the design of the three smartphones is inspired by last year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, the main unseen asset is Qualcomm’s latest premium chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Indeed, Samsung is (finally) getting rid of Exynos chips in the West to bring its phone models in line with the rest of the world, and above all to improve performance and endurance.

Samsung Galaxy S23: the smallest of the premium range

Samsung Galaxy S23, which can be translated as classic, is the cheapest smartphone in the range, although the price has increased significantly compared to last year. It includes some of the features of its predecessor, such as a 6.1-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) and an adaptive refresh rate of 48 to 120 Hz, but with increased brightness. We find the same camera as last year with a triple sensor module of 50 + 12 + 10 megapixels. The camera dedicated to selfies increases by megapixels and increases to 12.

As for the innovations, we can certainly note the design inspired by last year’s ultra-premium model, especially with the separate photosensors that are not assembled in the block. Internal storage will also be faster with UFS 4, but note that only the 128GB version of the S23 remains on UFS 3.1. Then, not to mention the most important element of this year: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Indeed, Qualcomm’s new high-end chip invites itself into the guts of this year’s Galaxy S, even in Europe, where we are more used to it. to Exynos. On the graphics side, we are told +33% on the CPU level, +43% on the graphics side, and +51% on the NPU. Moreover, the SoC is optimized for Samsung devices to improve the photo experience.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus: the one with more

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus is obviously a beefed-up version of its predecessor. We also find there a Full HD+ image (2340 x 1080 pixels) and an adaptive refresh rate of 48-120 Hz, as well as an OLED screen with better brightness, but with a diagonal of 6.6 inches. Thanks to the battery offering a capacity of 4700 mAh, the autonomy will be much higher than the 3900 mAh battery of the classic S23. 45W fast charging is no longer available for the Ultra model, which is a delight for the S23 Plus. Unfortunately, we’ll have to make do with the 25W charging system for the Galaxy S23 again this year.

On the upgrade side, it’s almost too much, as we can once again see the same 50 + 12 + 10 megapixel photo unit. However, look out for better autofocus on both models, as well as video recording in 8K at up to 30 frames per second versus 24 frames per second on the Samsung Galaxy S22. For raw power, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 brings the same performance boost as the S23, i.e. +33% on the CPU level, +43% on the graphics part, and +51% on the NPU. Finally, One UI is obviously part of it with version 5.1 based on Android 13. Note that there are now 4 years of major updates and up to 5 for security patches.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: the most premium, the most beautiful

As every year, the Ultra model of the Galaxy S series is a technological showcase to show what is best at Samsung. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is certainly no exception. Indeed, the South Korean giant’s top-of-the-line smartphone ups its game on almost every level, starting with the integration of a 200-megapixel main sensor alongside the classic ultra-wide-angle optical zoom (up to x100 digital). and so on. The result promises more detailed shots than before, especially when it comes to image zooming. However, if that doesn’t suit you, you can switch to 50 megapixels, especially since the time spent taking photos is shorter in this mode.

On the display side, we side with Samsung, with a 6.8-inch OLED panel that offers QHD + resolution (Full HD + by default) and a maximum brightness of 1,750 nits. The screen is also less curved on the sides than the S22 Ultra. Compared to the S23 and S23 Plus, the adaptive refresh rate ranges from 1-120Hz, which is very convenient for saving battery power. For autonomy, count on a large 5000 mAh battery and also fast charging up to 45 W. And since the S23 Ultra packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 12GB of RAM, the performance will certainly be more impressive than the other two models. From the 512 GB version Finally, the S Pen is of course there and always located in the lower right corner.
