Is the €1 Xbox from Bouygues Telecom a good deal?

Bouygues Telecom is offering an Xbox Series S for €1 if you subscribe to one of its Bbox Fiber offers with a 24-month commitment. A good deal for casual players or a way to hook them to a carrier?

“Your Xbox from 1 euro”. No, this is not a scam. Bouygues Telecom is offering to part with Microsoft’s Xbox Series S console with a 24-month commitment (and waiving the usual promotions) when the operator subscribes to one of its Bbox Premium offers on its website. this). Good plan or trap? Numerama took out the calculator.

Calculation over 2 years

Xbox Series S is officially priced at €299.99. However, it is not unusual for Microsoft to sell it during certain commercial transactions. For example, Christmas 2022 was regularly found under 230 euros.

What price should we consider in our calculations? Numerama decided to be nice and start with the official price of the console, which adds 38.99 euros for 3 months including Game Pass Ultimate. For €1, Bouygues Télécom therefore “offers” a package worth €338.98 in partnership with La Vitrine High-Tech.

Here are two suggestions from Bouygues. // Source: Draw the number

Two offers are offered by Bouygues Télécom. Let’s see how much they actually cost over 2 years when the commitment ends:

  • Must have Bbox (1 Gbps + 700 Mbps, Wi-Fi 6) €41.99 per month for 2 years + Xbox and Game Pass for €1: €1,008.76 over 24 months.
  • Bbox ultym (2 Gbps + 800 Mbps, Wi-Fi 6E) €50.99 per month for 2 years + Xbox and Game Pass for €1: €1,224.76 More than 24 months.

Given the first year of promotions normally offered with Bboxes, here are the prices at which the same offers would return if the Xbox were purchased separately:

  • Bbox 24.99 euros per month for the first year + 41.99 euros for the second year + Xbox + Game Pass: 299.88 + 503.88 + 299.99 + 38.99 = €1142.75 over 24 months, €133.99 more.
  • Bbox ultym for €30.99 per month for the first year + €50.99 for the second year + Xbox + Game Pass: 371.88 + 611.88 + 299.99 + 38.99 = 1322.74 euros over 24 months, which is 97.98 euros more.

Therefore, the offer with Xbox can be profitable only for the person who wants these offers from Bouygues Télécom. However, it forces you to subscribe to the operator’s most expensive Fiber offers.

Leaving after 12 months is the best plan

Since Bouygues Télécom only sells its Bbox Gaming offering with its most expensive offerings, the bill becomes sharp at the end of 24 months. So let’s repeat the same simulation with cheaper offers, but equivalent on paper. Bouygues and elsewhere.

  • Bbox fit (400 Mbps + 400 Mbps) 16.99 euros per month for the first year + 31.99 euros for the second year + Xbox + Game Pass: 203.88 + 383.88 + 299.99 + 38.99 = €926.74 over 24 months, or €82.02 less than the Bbox Gaming offer.
  • Sosh Fiber (300 Mbps + 300 Mbps) first year €19.99 per month + second €29.99 + Xbox + Game Pass: 239.88 + 359.88 + 299.99 + 38.99 = €938.74 over 24 months, a saving of €70 compared to the Bbox Gaming offer.
  • Freebox Pop (5 Gbps + 700 Mbps) €29.99 per month for the first year + €39.99 for the second year + Xbox + Game Pass: 359.88 + 479.88 + 299.99 + 38.99 = €1178.74 over 24 months, €169.98 more than Bbox Gaming offers.

Basically, Bouygues’ Gaming offers are good because they allow you to save money while enjoying a top-notch offering. However, a smart customer can reduce the bill by switching carriers after 12 months. In addition to Xbox and Game Pass, 1 year of Bbox at €24.99 and 1 year of Sosh at €19.99 will fit the bill. €878.74, or €130 less than the main Bbox Gaming offer. Changing the offer is once again the best way to save money.

Bouygues’ offer is not bad, unless it really lowers the prices. This allows you to get a cheaper Xbox even if the bundles on offer are priced higher than the competition. However, beware: future promotions on the Xbox Series S may call all our calculations into question, especially since the Bbox Gaming offers commit you to 24 months (SFR agreed with the PS5 a few months ago).
