A flagship among flagships, the Galaxy S22 Ultra stands alone in Samsung’s new lineup. If it shares most features with the Galaxy S22 and S22+, it’s also a Note thanks to the integration of the stylus.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra gave us a hard time during testing. Heralded as a success thanks to its gorgeous screen, integrated stylus and multiple photo sensors, it earns our fifth star thanks to its excellent durability record with the promise of software updates for four years. This hides some inconsistencies in terms of real performance: its Exynos 2200 is not up to expectations (at least at launch) and its night photography promises are only partially fulfilled. If it’s a very good all-round and durable smartphone overall, and if it finally brings the qualities of the Galaxy Note to the Galaxy S, it makes compromises that are hard to forget in its price segment.

Strong points

• Nice and bright screen.
• Stylus is no longer an option.
• Finally, fast charging.
• Overall photos of excellent quality, especially at 108 Mpx.

Weak points

• Exynos 2200… surprising.
• Nightography is less convincing than expected.

Alternatively

Oppo’s Find X5 Pro is a very convincing successor to the particularly successful Find X3 Pro. This smartphone does not show itself in terms of photography, does not play the card of the number of megapixels, in terms of software development. It succeeds, and its ability to perform very well at both wide-angle and ultra-wide angle makes up for the slightly lower optical zoom than its direct competition. For the rest, Find X5 Pro has a beautiful screen, the power, of course, is not excessive, but sufficient, and also has good autonomy (not to mention very practical fast charging). With such a device, Oppo confirms that it deserves its place in the big leagues.
