End of a month and a half run

Armed attacks, hostage-taking, various attacks, Norbert Tallet (age 46) and his partner Valerie Daime (age 21), who uses the pseudonym Chantal Aligon (named after Tallet’s ex-friend), had little to fear. The latter spent 6 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping. Almost permanently behind bars since 1958, he forgot to return to Liancourt prison (Oise) after a forty-eight-hour leave in November 1989.

They were also arrested in Alpes-Maritimes and Saône-et-Loire and were wanted by all French gendarmes from 26 November 1989.

A family held hostage in the Gironde

Norbert Tallet and Valérie Daimé arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vigier at Le Burthe in Mouliets, near Castillon-la-Bataille, on Tuesday, January 11, 1989. The couple is with their 14-year-old son and a farm worker when they ring the doorbell. At the door is a dark-haired man in his forties and a very young blonde woman. They want to see the car the farm contractor wants to sell. He posted an ad.

We let them in. In reality, Silvana and her husband Jean-Claude are just an excuse for the couple who enter the house before they have time to react or understand what is happening to them. A man and a woman point a sawn-off shotgun at them and demand money: “A lot of money, whatever.”

But the guards have nothing at home. So they say, and the two intruders, who seem ready for anything, decide to wait for the dawn and the banks to open.

nightmare night

And so begins a night of nightmares for the whole family. For twelve hours, the parents, the child and the agricultural worker remain at gunpoint. At 9 o’clock in the morning, after a sleepless night, Silvana Vigier is forced to withdraw 40,000 francs from the bank. He leaves his home and heads for Castillon-la-Bataille, while the rest of his family is threatened by two robbers. The first bank he goes to has no funds. Silvana Vigier then goes to the second establishment where she has the account. This time the required amount is given to him. The director of the first bank immediately alerted the gendarmes, but Silvana Vigier had already “ransomed” Norbert Tallet and Valerie Daime, who fled immediately. The advance achieved by the couple does not allow them to prevent the device installed by the gendarmerie forces.

The investigation, led by the commander of the Gironde group, Colonel Gueganto, is being carried out throughout the department, which is being prosecuted by the public prosecutor Eric Grafnuller. Investigators then linked a similar attack in Gand (Béarn) on January 6, 1989, where the couple forced the foreman’s wife to withdraw money from an ATM. The reports, the way of working, everything coincides. During the investigation, the gendarmes collect valuable information about the car. A metallic blue Renault 20. They also learn that the man and woman will be staying at a hotel near Bordeaux. Inspections are carried out systematically and rigorously in all establishments that correspond to the name, which the attacker ran into during the long night surrounded by hostages. The search paid off after the patrol found the suspicious car number 94 near a hotel in Bordeaux-Lac. superimposed. Not long ago, the suspects have been living there since January 9.

Real cops in fake bartenders

At Gendarmerie headquarters, contact is made with Paris to mobilize the GIGN (National Gendarmerie Intervention Group), since Norbert Tallet, who was involved in organized crime, was arrested by the same group thirteen years ago. The division and the research team organize themselves to invest in the hotel. The gendarmes, waiters or butlers, customers, “extras” in the regular customer’s navy blue coat under the orders of Major Casties, negotiate with the management and make the smoothest intervention possible. Nothing will be done to prevent any incident or accident that may endanger the lives of other customers. The investigator takes up residence in the room right next to the room occupied by the criminals.

We know the couple was planning to go out to dinner. The six gendarmes in a state of alarm will only run if the opportunity presents itself near the elevators, away from the frequent passages. At 8:50 p.m., Norbert Tallet did not have time to take the 9 mm pistol and the revolver in his bag. Fake workers, real policemen “fall” on them with short sleeves. There are bumps. “Don’t kill him, don’t kill him!” Valerie Daime yells at the police. Fierce resistance from the cornered mobster, but he’ll also get a black eye and a pair of bracelets. Valérie Daime is similarly neutralized. In a few minutes, with only a few bruises and scratches, the gendarmes will return to the Battesti barracks. The arrest, which was carried out with ease, took place without any blunders.

It’s Bonnie and Clyde!

Tallet believed a policeman who had just talked with Monteil, alias Montaigne, alias Maurel. “I will not go back to prison. Fortunately, you did not enter the room. I would throw He emptied the magazines. I’ll trip over something, I won’t go back to prison. »

Apparently, the gendarmerie put an end to the mad dash of the two cornered bandits. There was an automatic weapon in the room. Each of them has a pistol in his hand, a bullet in the barrel.

On November 26, 1988, at the end of his graduation, he left for the justice department, only three years left to shoot in Liancourt (Oise). He “got” fifteen years for a series of armed robberies. He knew the prison for similar facts. His criminal history indicates that he was “fallen” for mandatory detention.

Six brutal attacks in a few days

After their arrest, the Gironde gendarmerie group continues to receive messages. Tallet and Daimé were officially identified as the perpetrators of six attacks.

On December 13, 1988, two robbers rob a supermarket in Ablon-sur-Seine. Four days later, the owner of a restaurant in Sais (Saone-et-Loire) was taken hostage. Shooting the manager is Valerie Daime, a former bar waitress.

Eleven days later, Tallet and Daime attacked a real estate agency in Villefranche-sur-Mer. Again, a man and a woman grab several people to take money.

The journey continues. After Bern, both take the direction of Bordeaux. On January 10, 1989, they went to the notary Denis Tesyen. After taking him hostage (the victim will not complain later) and robbing the office, they still force the notary at gunpoint to withdraw 1,800 francs from the ATM. Three days later they are at Castillon-la-Bataille.
