2023 LG OLED TV series
2023 LG OLED TV series announced. This third generation improves the maximum brightness and goes up to 2100 nits. That’s a 70% increase over conventional OLED panels like the LG B3, LG B2, or even the A2 and A3 series. Compared to the 2022 LG G2, the increase is around 50%, which peaked at 1010 nits. This new gain in brightness is achieved thanks to smaller lenses that optimize light transmission.
Other improvements in this 2023 OLED TV range include a 30% improvement in viewing angles as well as 22% improved energy efficiency. A new model appears in the series, the M3, distinguished by wireless connection with a remote control box, the power cable, of course, is still needed.
Video processing also improves with a new algorithm for better contrast control and other additions. LG says these new technologies are grouped under META, a new algorithm and lenses to optimize light.
2023 LG OLED TV series
LG Display said it used 42.4 billion microlenses for the 77-inch panel. These lenses allow you to optimize light transmission, reduce losses, and thus increase perceived brightness. The increase in brightness improves the display, especially in HDR, but it allows you to get a more visible image even in a very bright room.

These new generation panels with META technologies will be used for LG’s high-end OLED TVs. Which includes the Z3, M3 and G3. The C3 may adopt some of these technologies. Sony also buys a large portion of its OLED panels from LG Display, so we should find these technologies in the Sony OLED 2023 TV series.
An increase in brightness up to 2100 nits
This increase is a big step forward in the next generation of LG OLED panels. The Samsung OLED 2023 TV range also benefits from a brightness boost, reaching 2000 nits. But for these two announcements, we need to take a step back, we are talking about a race and a marketing announcement. As we saw with the Samsung S95C, the brightness peaks after calibration to 1300 nits.
On the LG side, 2100 nits is achieved with “Vivid” or “Vivid Colors” mode, which forces colors, which distorts the image. With other picture modes, brightness peaks should drop to 1800 nitsthis remains very good value.
Technologies of the LG OLED 2023 TV series
The LG OLED 2023 TV range will always be equipped with four HDMI 2.1 ports, except for the B3, which only benefits from two HDMI 2.1 connectors with 4K at 120 Hz. As in previous years, there’s HDR10 compatibility, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.1 VRR, AMD FreeSync Premium, Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, and more.
On the other hand, this range offers HDMI 2.1 QMS (Quick Media Switching) which eliminates the black screen when switching from one refresh rate to another (24Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, etc.). Apple TV 4K (2022) is the first playback device to support QMS.
With WebOS 23, the operating system is also evolving. The latter benefits from a simplified appearance and navigation. The TVs will support the Matter protocol and benefit from a new customizable Quick Settings menu to give the user quick access to the most commonly used picture/audio settings.
New features 2023
The enhanced Picture-by-Picture (PbP) function allows simultaneous display of two sources, including two HDMI sources. Using a special function, it is possible to connect Bluetooth headphones whose volume can be adjusted independently of the TV speakers. The next-generation ATSC 3.0 tuner is only available on the G3 and Z3 models.
This 2023 LG OLED TV series is powered by the Alpha 9 Gen6 processor, except for the A3 and B3 models. The latter uses artificial intelligence (AI) to upscale and can recognize objects to improve sharpness or apply HDR tone mapping to each object in the image individually. It also features OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro, which dynamically adjusts brightness and colors for up to 20,000 blocks of the image for each scene. This feature can be disabled. A new 6-step setup process called “AI Picture Wizard” helps you create a custom picture mode that can be added to the picture profile menu.
Sound improvements
New audio features in the Alpha 9 Gen6 include Adaptive Volume Control, Auto Balance Control and virtual 9.1.2 channel surround sound upscaling. LG’s “Wowcast Orchestra” feature allows the built-in speakers on 2023 OLED TVs to work in synergy with the compatible LG soundbar.
DTS audio formats are still not supported by LG’s 2023 TVs, but the company says that the 2023 models can now pass the DTS bitstream of an IMAX Enhanced stream to an IMAX Enhanced compatible soundbar. . It should also work with other brands of IMAX Enhanced soundbars.
