more brightness and far box

Samsung S95C OLED unveiled at CES 2023. It is compatible with high-end QD-OLED and replaces its predecessor Samsung S95B by offering better brightness peaks. It belongs to the new Samsung OLED 2023 series of TVs. The second model of the latter, the more affordable S90C, does not have a remote control box.

The Samsung S95C TV is available in three diagonal sizes: 55, 65 and 77 inches, while LG offers a range of sizes from 42 to 97 inches. It is equipped with Samsung’s latest generation QD-OLED panels. This new generation offers an exceptional brightness of 2000 nits, close to Mini LED TVs known for their high brightness.

OLED TVs generally have limited brightness and a glossy panel prone to glare. Samsung S95C can improve these two weak points. Currently, we do not have any information about antireflective treatment. Samsung has one of the best anti-glare treatments on Neo QLED TVs.

OLED TVs have come a long way in recent years. The lifespan of OLED panels is significantly increased, brightness and the risk of marking are significantly reduced. If you are looking for the best TV today, OLED technology is considered a benchmark.

It should be noted that the brightness of 2000 nits is achieved only in a small part of the screen, about 3%. The maximum brightness drops to 1500 nits in 10% of the screen area. These values were obtained with the TV’s standard settings, in particular with a color temperature of almost 10,000 K. After calibration, according to HDTVTEST, brightness peaks will drop to 1300 nits. However, the test was conducted on a pre-production model, the first copy does not necessarily correspond to the production model.

Samsung’s panels use a standard RGB subpixel layout rather than the WRGB layout used by LG panels on the LG C2 and G2. Therefore, it will be interesting to compare the brightness of the TVs more generally and after calibration.

Although brightness is an important criterion for image quality, it is not the only factor to consider. Allows you to highlight bright objects and eliminate reflections. However, a difference of 200 or 300 nits in a 2000 nit brightness range is hardly noticeable to the human eye. LG has announced the G3 series for 2023 with a maximum brightness of 1800 nits, which puts it in the race to deliver a quality picture.

Ultra-thin TV thanks to the remote control box and OLED technology

The Samsung S95C differs from the S90C in its remote control box. This allows you to remove all the bulky elements of the chassis, so there is no block in the back. In addition, OLED technology does not need a backlight, which allows you to get a TV with great sophistication.

With this space savings, Samsung was also able to integrate a 70 Watt, 4.2.2 and Dolby Atmos compatible audio system into the chassis.

Samsung S95C price

The competition between LG and Samsung is also played out on price. The Samsung S90C is being touted as a more affordable option, but no official pricing information is available yet. It is possible that the S90C will compete with the LG C3 at slightly higher prices.

The Samsung S95C competes with the LG G3 and should be priced similarly.

LG uses a wider range of OLEDs with a wider price range. In 2022, LG OLED TV series were A2, B2, C2 and G2. In 2022, LG’s most popular OLED TV in terms of price-performance ratio was the LG C2, while Samsung didn’t have a competing product at this price point.

Samsung S95C technologies

The main difference between the Samsung S90C and S95C is in their design and the presence of a remote case. The S95C also benefits from a more powerful 70W audio system. In terms of other features, the two TVs are identical.

Samsung S95C and S90C come with 144Hz refresh rate and Samsung Gaming Hub feature. They are also the first OLED TVs to be AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certified. This allows them to display variable refresh rates with HDR. In addition, they incorporate the new Quantum Neural processor, which benefits from 14-bit processing and enhanced levels of artificial intelligence.

A feature to convert SDR content to HDR

Samsung S95C is equipped with Samsung’s new “Neural Quantum Processor 4K” video processor. It has a feature called “Auto HDR Remastering” that converts SDR content to HDR. The sound system is integrated into the chassis. Specifically, the speakers support 4.2.2ch 70W Dolby Atmos, an improvement over last year’s 2.2.2ch system.

As for the operating system, it upgrades to Tizen 7.0 and integrates Gaming Hub, which allows access to cloud gaming (video game streaming). Currently, Samsung has not announced that it will upgrade its previous generation TVs to Tizen 7.0.

Samsung S95C’s cloud gaming support with Gaming Hub lets you take advantage of NVIDIA GeForce NOW and also Microsoft Xbox offer.

In 2023, Zigbee and Matter protocols will be integrated directly into Samsung TVs. This means you won’t need a separate SmartThings dongle to integrate into a smarter home.
