Panasonic for movies and series in HDR
With its high peak brightness, the Panasonic 55JZ1500 delivers a more dynamic picture in HDR.
The new LG 55C2 inherits the Oled Evo panel found in last year’s high-end models like the LG 65G1. This brighter panel boasts a peak brightness of 804 cd/m² versus 740 cd/m² in last year’s LG 65C1. However, the Panasonic TX-55JZ1500 with an Oled Professional Edition panel with an internal cooling system performs better, with a brightness peak measured at 965 cd / m² in the 65-inch version. This 20% difference in favor of the Panasonic model is clearly visible and offers improved picture dynamics. This criterion is obviously important for movie lovers in Ultra HD (to take advantage of HDR) and more beautiful pictures. In terms of calibration, Panasonic does a little better, but the Japanese manufacturer clearly applies itself in HDR thanks to this more impressive brightness peak in the image.
Slight advantage to LG in games
The LG C2 has features more suitable for video games.
In terms of video games, the LG takes advantage thanks to a reduced display lag of less than 10ms versus 14.4ms for the Panasonic 55JZ1500. Again, in practice the difference is minimal and will not be noticed by most players. On the other hand, the LG model is compatible with G-Sync, which may make a difference for those who plan to play from a PC. The rest is very close, as both models are compatible with HDMI 2.1 4K 120 Hz (two inputs on the Panasonic, four inputs on the LG) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) that automatically reduce screen latency to prevent image tearing and prevents bending. The LG 55C2 also takes over the control panel for the game mode already seen on the 55C1.
Nicer system and remote on LG, rotating foot on Panasonic
In terms of overall ergonomics, the advantage goes to the LG more, thanks to the more complete webOS 22 system, especially in terms of applications, and interesting features such as microphones integrated into the TV. The Panasonic MyHomeScreen system is more rustic and really focuses on important apps like YouTube, Netflix, Disney +, Prime Video and Molotov, but ignores MyCanal or OCS for example. If the system’s limitations can be frustrating, the user remains less dependent on their TV’s system, and in that sense will be less frustrated if they don’t upgrade for 18-36 months, as that is often the reality. on TVs in the market. This is a blessing in disguise for users, some of whom prefer a simpler TV to leave the smart features to a real media box like the Shield TV, Apple TV 4K, or even Google TV with Chromecast. The remote is also a little more modern on the LG, with an integrated gyroscope and a better grip. Panasonic also ignores AirPlay compatibility, allowing you to cast an image from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to the TV, whereas it’s available on the LG model. The only advantage of the Panasonic model: its rotating foot can be decisive in certain situations.
Well, the verdict?
The Panasonic 55JZ1500 sells for between €1,400 and €1,500, and the LG 55C2 for between €1,600 and €1,800. The quality/price ratio is therefore in favor of the Panasonic 55JZ1500, which offers superior picture quality. On the other hand, if you plan to use the integrated system of the TV or if some functions like silent control seem important to you, it is better to go for the LG model.
