Look out for the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL
Autumn is pleasant near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In baseball, the Phillies are currently playing in the World Series. And the Eagles are the last undefeated team in the NFL. They’ve won their first six games (including Minnesota and Dallas) and are set to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday (6 p.m.) in the eighth day of the regular season after a week off.
It’s been a long time since Philadelphia hosted a party like this. The last time the Pennsylvania franchise won its first six games was in 2004. Made it to the Super Bowl that year (beaten by New England and Tom Brady). And in 2017, the only super final year the Eagles won (They were champions in 1948, 1949 and 1960 before the Super Bowl was created in 1967)the team’s start to the season was also excellent (10 wins in the first 11 matches).
In two years, everything has changed for the Eagles. After failing to confirm the 2017 coronation, Philadelphia hit rock bottom in 2020, winning just four games. Coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz resigned. To replace them, Nick Sirianni (41) was offered his first position as a head coach in the NFL, and Jalen Hurts (24), who was very close to the Heisman trophy (which honors the best college player), was chosen as QB.
Smith & Brown, shock duo at reception
The start of the tandem was promising. Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles made the playoffs, but Brady’s lost there quickly against Tampa Bay. Hurts performed reliably in his first full season in the NFL. He’s doing well this year, too. Jalen Hurts is sixth in passing yards and sixth among quarterbacks with 1,514 yards and six touchdowns. There is another string to his bow. Hurts scores a lot during the run: 10 TDs last year and already six this season.
He has two top targets next to him, receivers DeVonta Smith (24) and AJ Brown (25). First, he was already a star before coming to the NFL. He was a two-time varsity champion with the University of Alabama and the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner. Smith also played with Jalen Hurts (who graduated from Alabama at Oklahoma) for a while. Landed in the NFL last year, he convinced from the start. And in late September, he threw for 169 yards against Washington.
AJ Brown himself came to the Eagles this season after two good first years at Tennessee and a less successful third year. In his first game with Philadelphia (against Detroit), Brown had 155 yards. There is no jealousy between the two buyers. Both caught 33 balls. But AJ Brown is running slightly more than his partner (502 yards to 397).
Arrival of Robert Quinn
Finally, Miles Sanders, who arrived in Philadelphia four years ago, is a decent running back. In early October, he had a career-best 134 yards against Jacksonville. With all of these elements, the Eagles now have the fourth-leading scoring offense and the fifth-leading rushing yards.
But more than the offense, it was primarily the defense that represented a major project for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. To overcome this, the team did not avoid transfers. He brought in quarterback Haason Reddick, who played in Carolina this summer. He’s currently racking up 4.5 sacks, which is the best he’s ever been in formation. Cornerback James Bradberry came from the NY Giants. He is one of the best in the NFL with nine blocked assists.
And last Wednesday, the Eagles were treated to a quality reinforcement in the person of 12-year NFL quarterback Robert Quinn. He had 18.5 sacks last season. Quinn will play his first game for Philadelphia on Sunday. He joins a defense that is currently ranked fourth in the pro league. Green isn’t the only color on the Eagles jersey. All the lights are there too.
